At Brady UX, we love working with forward-thinking companies that challenge the way people engage with learning and development. One of our most rewarding collaborations has been with 1st90, a platform designed to help employees build habits and acquire knowledge through structured microlearning. Over time, this innovative product evolved into Comet, expanding its impact beyond onboarding to drive meaningful behavioral change across organizations.
The Transformation of 1st90
Initially, 1st90 focused on structured onboarding, guiding new hires through their first 90 days with engaging, gamified microlearning experiences. But as the platform grew, it became clear that the same approach could be leveraged for much more. Companies needed solutions to reinforce learning after events, workshops, and strategy meetings—helping employees put new knowledge into action.
Enter Comet—a new iteration of the platform that integrates AI to enhance learning experiences after in-person company gatherings. From manager development to strategic initiatives and sales training, Comet ensures that employees retain and apply what they learn long after a training session ends.
Bringing Comet to Life: Our Role in UX and Gamification
Brady UX played a pivotal role in shaping Comet’s evolution by refining the platform’s user experience (UX) and gamification elements, making learning engaging, effective, and measurable. Some of the key contributions included:
Reimagining the Badge System: The previous badge system lacked flexibility, was outdated in design, and didn’t integrate well into the user journey. We worked closely with 1st90’s team to create a modern, structured badging system that enhances motivation and engagement.
Streak-Based Motivation: Inspired by the success of streak mechanics in apps like Duolingo, we designed a streak tracking system that rewards users for consistent engagement.
Microlearning Optimization: Each lesson follows an evidence-based learning framework, ensuring that users absorb, reflect, and act on key concepts effectively.
Seamless UI Enhancements: We refined navigation, added engaging visuals, and streamlined interactions to make the platform intuitive and rewarding to use.
Gamification That Works
One of the most exciting elements of Comet is its newly reimagined badge system. Instead of generic rewards, we are working with the 1st90 team to craft a set of achievement milestones that encourage real behavior change. Our approach includes:
A tiered badge system that evolves as users build habits over time.
Real-time notifications that celebrate achievements at key milestones.
A seamless leaderboard integration to create positive social reinforcement.
User-centered designs inspired by Apple Watch achievements—minimalist yet visually impactful.
Beyond the Design—A Strategic Approach
Our collaboration with 1st90 and Comet goes beyond just UI/UX. At Brady UX, we don’t just make things look good—we design experiences that drive real outcomes. Our process included:
Deep discovery sessions to align goals and pain points with design decisions.
Iterative prototyping to ensure the new features fit seamlessly into the user journey.
Close collaboration with developers to ensure smooth implementation.
Continuous refinement based on user data and feedback.
The Future of Comet
With Comet, organizations now have a tool that extends far beyond onboarding, helping employees sustain new behaviors and skills in a way that’s interactive, measurable, and engaging. Whether it’s reinforcing learning from a leadership retreat, tracking engagement after a sales conference, or driving company-wide initiatives, Comet transforms knowledge into action.
